Bell's New HSPA System

I've been a Bell customer for about 13 years now. I've had a Bell cell phone since I graduated from Highschool pretty much. Sometimes things have been rough, other times it's been smooth sailing. I've had my share of issues with the "billing department", of course due to no fault of mine.

I have read many horror stories online about people's encounter with Bell's customer service and billing teams.

My question is, are you willing to, either stick it out, or move to Bell now that there new HSPA network will be rolling out in November?

Do you think things will get better? Is there hope? Is there a chance for redemption for Bell?
If you are totally ready to step into this new network with Bell which devices are you considering?

The lates leaked information suggests Bell will be launching with the following Devices:

LG Xenon
Samsung Impact
Samsung Omnia 2
Apple iPhone 3G 8GB
Apple iPhone 3GS 16GB
Apple iPhone 3GS 32GB
BlackBerry Bold 9000
BlackBerry 9700
Nokia 2730
Nokia 6350

One highly anticipated Handset is missing however. The Blackberry Storm2 does not currently show up on the list. One can only hope that it will be launched shortly after the launch of the new network!

Economists

Is it just me or are economists very pesimistic people??

Everytime I turn on the news there is some statistic that shows that our economy is on the road to recovery yet they can always manage to find one economist who says we are fooling ourselves and that the worst is far from over....

What do you think??

How is your employment status??
I've been unemployed for a long time now and have no potential prospects either at the moment.

How did you fare during this recession?

Certified Management Accounting (C.M.A.) Entrance Exam

So back in June I wrote the CMA Entrance Exam. I was thinking about bettering my career given all the recession and no jobs.

Now I have been out of school since 2003, so to suddenly get back into it was tough to say the least. I started the prep course 2 months before the Exam itself and considered postponing the exam a few times because I didn't think I was ready.

My prep class instructor pushed me and told me to write the exam. So June 16, 2009 came and I was at Exhibition Place in downtown Toronto writing the exam.

I came out of the Exam thinking discouraged and thinking about what my study strategy is going to be when I am forced to write the exam again in October. The marking process took 6 weeks and they were 6 LONG weeks.

So I woke up to an email from my instructor saying the marks were now posted. I must say, I was very nervous while checking the marks but was pleasantly surprised to see a "Pass - Congratulations" listed.

The whole experience is really nerve racking. Just wanting to do well, while keeping your cool. Just a tough experience.

Now I'm on my way to starting the Strategic Leadership Program in Fall. My main quest however, is finding a job now. So if you have any leads, send them my way!

If the picture above seems fimiliar it is because it was recently seen on Nationalpost.com.

The pictures were taken by yours truly. The concert was amazing and Chris Martin put on a really good show. I came back with over 500 pictures and some made it to the national post!

Look for more in the future!

How much do you tip the Pizza Delivery guy?

So, I was sitting at home tonight, starving, so I decided to go online and order Pizza. Yes, you can order pizza online now. Welcome to the 21st century!

So I went to Domino's website and placed my order. Paid for the pizza by a credit card.

At the end of the order I saw a small little note, "Feeling generous? You can tip at the door when you sign your credit card receipt."

Since I was already on the computer, I decided to google, "how much do you tip for pizza delivery" and came across Tipthepizzaguy.com.

The website is decidated to the very same topic. How much to tip the pizza guy! Well the handy calculator quickly told me that i needed to tip the pizza guy $3.01 based on my total order price.

....umm, I gotta go look for $3.01! Damn I paid using a Credit Card cause I didn't want to have to look for cash!

Gotta go eat now. Don't worry I will find the Pizza guy some decent change!

She was born in the Good ol' Montreal! Ahhh Montreal does really house the beauties ;) (even though she moved to Toronto at the age of 2). Went to Unionville High School. How come I never saw her around?!?!

Support the Airline Passenger Bill of Rights

New Democrat MP Jim Maloway (Elmwood-Transcona) introduced a Private Members Bill that will provide compensation to airline passengers and a bill of rights protecting travellers in Canada.

The bill includes measures on compensation for overbooked flights, unreasonable tarmac delays, cancelled flights, the concern for late and misplaced luggage, and all-inclusive pricing by airline companies in their advertising.

“The legislation is inspired by a European Union law, where over-bookings have dropped significantly,” said Maloway. “Air Canada is already operating under the European laws for their flights in Europe. Why should an Air Canada customer receive better treatment in Europe than in Canada?”

The bill of rights will ensure that passengers are kept informed of flight changes, whether they are delays or cancelations. The new rules will be posted in the airport and airlines must inform passengers of their rights and the process to file for compensation.

“The changes are not meant to punish the airlines,” said Maloway. “If the airlines follow the rules, they will not have to pay one dollar in compensation to travellers.”

Air passenger bill of rights - Summary of key provisions

The above information was obtained from Jim Maloway's website.

Please support the bill and make travelling easier for yourself!

This is why you never fly Air Canada!

So this is the response I got back from Air Canada.
It's funny how there delays are OK, where as a passenger who is 1 minute late is absolutely not acceptable!
I also really liket he part where the letter justified the rude behavious of Air Canada staff by putting the blame on the "passenger".

Thank you for your e-mail. We appreciate the time you have taken to contact us.

At Air Canada, we make every effort to respect the scheduled departure time of all flights. A delay of even a few minutes can result in the loss of a takeoff position. This, in turn, can impact an entire day's operations and further inconvenience a greater number of customers.

To help us provide ontime departures, the absolute deadline for the completed process of checkin, including any checked baggage, is sixty minutes for transborder flights. Kiosks are programmed such that they will not accept passengers after the cut off. Airport agents are unable to accept late running passengers.

Although there may be times that a passenger believes that he/she could possible clear security and 'make' the flight before it departs, this is not always the end of the matter. As soon as the checkin closes at sixty minutes prior to departure, planning for the flight commences, including fueling requirements, weight and balance calculations, catering orders, etc. As such, passengers who arrive after our cutoff for whatever reason are unable to checkin for their flight.

Passengers are ultimately responsible for ensuring that they allow for sufficient time when planning their arrival at the airport. Such factors that should be considered are traffic, parking, and airport lineups.

As you did not complete the checkin process before the sixty minute cutoff requirement, our agents correctly offered the opportunity to change your flight as per the fare rules of your ticket.

We regret that you felt our agents were discourteous as we strive to offer customers professional service. Our agents are entrusted to treat passengers fairly by properly following the rules of the ticket purchased. Sometimes this can be difficult to do so when passengers continue to request exceptions be made.

Our flight records, as a matter of interest, show that Air Canada flight AC764 on June 26, 2009 departed the gate in Toronto five minutes early at 08:55. We regret the slight delay on your return flight to Toronto.

Praneet, thank you for allowing us this opportunity to comment on your feedback.

Sincerely,

Paul Griffin
Customer Relations

Wow!! Let's just say they aren't willing to admit fault, they aren't willing to refund my money and they don't care for my, or your, business.

I would end the post by saying, "Untill next time..." but I will never fly Air Canada again. So there won't be a next time...

This is why Air Canada sucks!

I recently flew with Air Canada and had a very unpleasent experience, which isn't something new for the most of us. Air Canada has built a stellar image of themselves in the Customer Service department. But it seems like they have taken things further. Now not only do they provide inadequate customer service, but they also force passengers to pay additional funds during check-in.

I'll just include the letter I wrote to there Customer Service team and next will be response that came back.

Hi,
I was scheduled to leave Toronto on the morning of June 26th, 2009, headed to Newark on the 6:30 flight with my wife and sister-in-law and had a terrible experience with Air Canada.
I arrived at the airport at approximate 5:25 and headed over to the Air Canada counter. I reached one of your automated machines and proceeded to check in but got an error. I waited a few moments for an Air Canada employee to assist me with the check-in. When she came over I explained to her the issue and she simply stated that I go ahead and check-in through an agent. So I walked to the line and was stopped by another Air Canada employee who asked me to weigh my baggage first. The time now was exactly 5:34 because the attendant mentioned that to me. We weighed our bags, which were all well within the Air Canada requirements, and proceeded down the line to an agent. We reached the agent at 5:37am according to her. She notified that we were too late to board our flight and that we would need to purchase a new ticket. She proceeded to check the prices for ticket for the next flight to Newark. She stated that the new ticket would cost us “Only an additional $235 for all the three passengers.” I told the attendant that I was not aware of any such rule and she said, “it’s been given”. That is all her answer was. “It’s been given.”
I contested and asked the attendant if there was a more reasonable solution to this. She said, no, we were late and were not going to be allowed to board the flight. She also stated that there was a huge line up for US customs and security check which we won’t be able to make it past in that much time.
At this moment, her inflexibility and attitude forced me to ask for a supervisor. This, actually, was a bigger mistake. This “manager” was rude, discourteous and impolite. He stated that, “…you are late; I can’t do anything about it. It’s Air Canada policy.” He then stated that, “I see you had a higher fare ticket so the additional charges won’t be too much. If you want, you can pay right now or go there and think about it and purchase a new ticket at the Air Canada ticket counter”, pointing into the air.
At this point the attendant checking us in was “late” for something and left us with another attendant. The new attendant was a little more courteous. She admitted that Air Canada clocks are always a bit ahead and she has to make it into work a few minutes early to punch in.

This is the 2nd time, I’m having to deal with unprofessional and discourteous Air Canada staff. This time, not only the service was poor, but we were also made to pay an additional $236.25 for being a few moments late.

So after pleading our case, then being transferred to another attendant, paying the additional charges, waiting for the attendant to process everything twice (she made a mistake the first time), then filling out our travel forums for the US, passing US customs, leaving our baggage at the belt and passing security, we made it inside to the Airplane gates at 6:05am.
The new flight was scheduled to board at 8:25 but did not being boarding till 8:36. The flight was suppose to depart at 9, but took off at 9:09. Our return flight (AC 754) had a departure time of 10:50pm PST from San Francisco but the flight did not even leave the gate till 11 and took off at 11:37. We were 10 minutes late reaching Toronto.

I just feel it is very unreasonable and unwarranted to charge a passenger additional money and deny them boarding if they are a few minutes late. We were 1 minute late to the automated machine and were at the attendant 7 minutes late. After dealing with rude customer service we still made it into the terminal 25 minutes before the flight was due to take off. I would really appreciate it if Air Canada would refund me the additional money I was forced to pay at the check-in counter. It was an unfair charge and refunding it would say a lot about Air Canada’s attempt to satisfy its customers.
If there are any further details you would like, I will be more than happy to provide them to you. Unfortunately the check-in agent did not provide me with a receipt for the additional charges otherwise I would have attached them to this email.

Regards,

Wait till you see the response...

Did you see it?!?!

So the Entourage season kicked off last night!

It was a great start! Vinny is back on top and Sloan is back in E's life.... HAWT! You have to admit, she looks amazing!

I love the reference to "Dan Tana" the trendy Italian resturant I walked into on the recommendation of the hotel I was staying at. I'm not sure why it's such a popular resturant, it wasn't even that good. All the food for some reason was missing tomatoes. Imagine speghetti without tomatoes!

Anyways, it was a good episode and I hope we get a full season this year unlike last years 12 episode shortened season. Actually season 4 also had 12 episodes only.

What did you think of it? What did you think of Vinny's driving? What did you think of Sloan's return? What did you think of Turtle and Jamie?!?!?!?!?! He's DA MAN!! You have to admit!

Transformers 2 - Review

So I finally got a chance to go and see Transfomers 2.

I don't know why all the critics are dogging it?!?! It was awesome!!! I really enjoyed the movie.
The action alone was worth the $10!

Optimus Prime is a BAD ASS!!! And Bumble Bee fought like a man!!
The twins were a bit annoying, but i'm willing to overlook that.

Yes, I agree the story was a bit weak, but DAMN that action just blew me away!! I was speechless after the movie!

I give it the "2 thumbs up", "5 Stars", "100 Tomatoes", whatever you want to call it...

Let me know what you think of it.

Until next time...

Entourage - Coming up

So the new season for Entourage is going to be starting THIS SUNDAY!!
Yes, it's coming up quick! Make sure you have your front row seats clean and the popcorn ready!! It'll be a fun season!

Transformers 2

So it's finally out!!
Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen!

The long awaited sequel to what was an action packed Part 1.

I haven't had a chance to see it yet, but the reviews look good so far. I hear the story is weak but action is worth the watch and makes up for any other deficiencies.

What do you think???
I have also heard the there were scene that were filmed with the IMAX camera and if you were to watch the movie in an IMAX theatre, you would get an enhanced experience. Ready for the 3 hour line up???

Flashes of Light...

So I recently bought a Canon 430 EX II Flash for my Rebel T1i.

I was sitting around last night, reading the manul for the flash. Who know flash photography was an art?!?!

Let's just say, I got into the first 10 pages and I was lost. I consider myself very tech savvy, but DAMN! There is a LOT you can do with a addon flash for your camera. No wonder the damn things costs so much!

Now I look like a certified geek carrying the big DSLR with the Flash mounted on top roaming the streets, taking pictures of unsual things in unsual manners.

Pissy Customers....

Why are some people just born pissy??

Today at work, I was talking to a customer and another customer comes by, interrupts, asks me if I have the time to help him.

I politely say, "yes, but right after I'm done helping this customer."

The customer replies back to me in an annoying tone, "I don't have that much time to waste, waiting for you."

WOW! And you expect good customer service in return???
Needless to say, I continued helping the first customer and this ray of sunshine just took off.

One less dick weed I had to deal with!

Project Natal

Good news for all the X-Box fans out there.
Microsoft has come out with its own version of the "Wiimote", but without an actual physical remote. So far it's known as "Project Natal". It's basically motion sensing for the X-Box.

Imagine what Wii did and now add a beast of a machine for the amazing graphics and effects AND no remote!! Sounds amazing! If you don't believe me, check out the video....

Win 2, Lose 1

Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals was last night.

RED WINGS 2 - PENGUINS 4

It was a hard fought game, but the penguins had to rebound after losing 2 straight in Detroit.
Thursday's game is going to be crucial to the Red Wings winning effort. If Detroit wins game 4, they have pretty much sealed the deal.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed! GO WINGS GO!!

Bill C-310

Have you heard of Bill C-310?

It is a private member's bill brought into Parliament to force Airline carriers in Canada to compensate travellers for unreasonable delays. For example, $500 for each hour you have to wait on the tarmac. $1200 if you taken off a flight longer than 3500 kms. Refreshments during waits, air circulation and what now.

At first Air Canada and Westjet considered this outrageous and stated that the bill will completely make it unreasonable for them to provide proper, safe services. It would be too costly and in the end the consumers will suffer.
That didn't work. The Bill went through first readings.

What came next?

Air Canada came up with there OWN Flight Rights for Passengers. To stop this bill from passing Air Canada and all the other major flight carriers in Canada came up with rules that would make the flying experience better.

Have we not learned? Self policing doesn't work! Look at the Insurance companies, medical doctors, the Police itself. They never find themselves at fault and at the end of the day consumers suffer.

I personally say YES to Bill C-310! I'm tried of being Air Canada's bitch. It's time we got treated like a valued customer!

GM files for Bankruptcy

Wow!
Who would've ever thought that automotive giant, General Motors would be struggling to stay a float?!?!
Yes, it has come to that. GM has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and we, the Canadian people, now own 12% of the company.

How did things get to this? Years of poor management, poor product quality standards, and now the poor economic conditions have silenced this once mighty giant!

But, you know the question on our mind is who is to blame?
Should tax payers be bailing GM out?

My answer is NO.

What about all those GM employees who lived the life of luxury getting paid $30-$40 an hour assembling cars??

Were they bailing me out when I was incurring University debt?

What about the GM CEO, Richard Wagner?

Was he thinking about the company or his comfort when he decided to take a private jet to Washington?

GM has reached this position because of it's own carelessness. I don't think it should be tax payers who should be bailing them out. It should be all the ex-CEO and the employees that should be making the effort.

The UAW owning 17% of a company that they have lived off of for nearly a 100 years just doesn't seem enough.

Well, that was my 2 cents....

What do you think??

The new season on Entourage begins on JULY 12! (Full Schedule Here)

I can't wait for the Ari one liners...

Last season was definitely not the best, but rumour has it that the new season will be going back to the roots. Which means more goofy behaviour from Drama and Turtle and less tight assness from "E".

What to look forward to in Season 6?

- Sloan is suppose to be back. (Wow!)

- There is more of Turtle and Jamie Lynn (Meadow Soprano). They are actually dating in real life. Lucky bastard!

- Drama will continue to be Drama.

- Ari will continue to gave Lloyd a "hard" time.

(Lloyd: Are you hiding something from me Ari?

Ari: Only my cock and asshole Lloyd...)

Let the fun begin!!

If you have ever been to the Louvre Museum in Paris, you will very quickly find out that you are not allowed to take the picture of the Mona Lisa.

I've read about this across the net and some people say Flash photography is not allowed, where as others say, you are not allowed to take the picture period.

Well from first hand experience, we were not allowed to take a picture, period!

Maybe an expert photographer or an art genius can tell me why the Louvre doesn't allow visitors to take a picture of the most famous piece of art in the world....but we had to sneak a picture out....

You can run but cannot hide

So how many of you have been avoiding technology??

Well, if i guess correctly, you guys have all grown up with technology and it's pretty much implanted in your DNA. It comes naturally to most of us. Most of us dont' pick up the User Manual to figure out how to use the complex devices we carry now days.

Be honest, how many of you actually read your cell phone manuals???

In this day and age of technology I look back and see my dad. He tries REALLY hard to keep up with technology, but I see him often struggling with things. Unexpected messages on his computer screen often catch him off guard and scare him.
"Is this a virus?"
"What does this mean?"
"What is it doing now?"
These are all questions he's continously asking himself and if I put myself in his shoes, I can see why!

I just hope that when our kids are in there teens, they aren't saying the same thing about us!!
We already see the younger generations getting a head start. I never owned a cell phone till I was in university - and now you see highschool kids who have barely entered the teenage life and busy "sexting" each other.

What do you think? Are we just like technology and get obsolete as time goes, or do we have a fighting chance to keep up with generations to come?

Until next time...

Just one of them days

Yesterday started at a slow pace...Well not really, I was just processing a bit slowly.

After a night of fun and frolicking I set my alarm to wake me up at 9:30AM so I could make it back home in time to get ready for work. Of course, you can always count on Toronto traffic to help you out!

On a bright Sunday morning at 10am it took me more than an hour and a half to get back home when it usually just takes me an hour.

Why?!?! Oh why do people who have sworn an eternal pledge to never go over the speed limit insist on driving in the left lane??
Come on, I know I'm not the only one who has run into this, unless you are one of the culprits.
I have just reached the conclusion that common courtesy on the road has diminished. No one waves so say thank you anymore while driving, no one lets you pass if you are the faster moving vehicle, no one bothers to give an indicator anymore when changing lanes.

Why the lack of common courtesy?

Well for me it all comes out to careless and irresponsible drivers. People who don't check there rear view mirrors, people who insist below the speed limit on the left lane and don't let others pass, people who are busy chit chatting on there cellphones and last but not leaves, but definitely the worst, people who are TEXTING while driving! Yes I've seen it!!

People STOP!!!

Rules of the road according to ME:

1. Left lane is used for faster moving vehicles and for passing. - Keep you slow ass outta the left lane.

2. Cell phones are a distraction. - Buy a Blue Tooth headset, they are for $40 at Best Buy.

3. Be a polite driver. - Give others space when needed. Wave for people who are courteous to you.

4. Car pool lane is to be used during busy times when all other lanes are congested. - Don't get on the car pool lane and set cruise control at a 100!! There is a reason why the carpool lane is on the LEFT side of the road and not on the right side.

5. Read view mirrors should be checked every 4-5 seconds. - If someone is riding up your ass, it means you are going to slow for him/her and you should let him/her pass. You dad didn't pay for the road and other drivers have as much of a right to drive on it as you do.

6. Use your indicator when changing lanes. - Did you get a discount for buying a car without indicators? No. So use the indicators which are on your car. Doesn't take that much of an effort.

The rules are simple enough to follow. Makes your life and life of others a little more tolerable by driving sensibly. We spend a lot of time on the road. Please don't spend more of that time annoying me with your terrible driving habits.

Until next time...

The Steel City

So, it was Saturday night and it had been a while since I let loose so I called up my best friend and made plans to visit him in the Steel City a.k.a. Hamilton. There is just something peculiar about Hamilton. Life just drops a grade a two as soon as you leave the Greater Toronto Area and start entering Hamilton city limits.

Anyways, we decide to grab a bite to eat and then hit the local night life, Hess Village.
We go to the fanciest Italian Restaurant in town. They give us freshly unfrozen and then baked garlic bread. I know this 'cause I've bought the same bread from my grocer's frozen food section before. After the fine dining is done, we catch the last few minutes of the Denver vs LA basketball game - Wow, what a close finish.

We head over to Hess Village - or teeny bopper central like I've come to call it. Every year seems like girls are getting younger and the skirts are getting shorter........wait, legal drinking age is 19, so maybe I'm getting older, but the skirts are definitely getting shorter!!

After a night of standing around, having a drink or two and then bailing to go sleep at home I've come to the realization, that I'm just not cut out to be a clubber any more. Long gone is my life of staying out till the wee hours of the morning trying to meet cute girls. Alas, old age is catching up. But I'm ready for it! I've got the best years of my life yet to come with the one cute girl I met one night.

Until next time...

Edumacation

So it's Friday evening and being the young ripe age of 30 that I am, I should be getting ready to go party my brains out.......you'd think. Instead, I'm sitting at home preparing for a "mock" exam on Saturday morning at 9AM sharp.

Life takes you down weird paths. I graduated university 6 years ago and now I'm back in studying mode.

My advice to others....if you plan on studying further, try doing it right after university. It's tough RE-memorizing Liquidity Ratios and Profitability Ratios. That brings us to another topic of discussion.
Why make people memorize things? Am I ever going to be in a life or death situation where I'm going to be asked the Payout ratio? Sort of a gun to head, tell me what the Inventory Turnover ratio is or you are going to be a dead man, situation?

I can understand if you were required to know which ratio to use when, but not what the actual ratios are.

Obviously some old guys at the Accounting Institude haven't heard of Google search.

Well, I see my 15 minute break is now over and I have to go back to the lovely Ratios.

Until next time...

05-21-2009 - Beautiful Summer Day

So, I started this beautiful summer day at work.... Wasn't busy today so got to do what I love doing - reading about camera and talking about electronics.

It hit 30 degrees today - Celsius that is.

Just want to talk about a pet peeve....

Why do people think it's OKAY for them to park on "NO PARKING" spots and go about doing there things?
I was at Subway today and a lady parked right infront of the store, where it clearly stated "NO PARKING". Came into the store, ordered a sub, waited for it to be prepared and then went back out, hopped into her car and took off. I was hoping she'd get a ticket, but she wasn't that unlucky. It's people like that who really ruin traffic flows. Parking where they aren't suppose to and then leaving there cars unattended. It's ridiculous!

Until next time...

My Interests

What interests me....
Well there is a long list of things that tickle my fancy.
I'm a big tech freak. I like all the different gadgets and like to stay up to date. I frequent websites like Engadget and Crackberry to get my daily dose of gadgets.

Lately I've really been spending a lot of time reading about Blackberries. I'm a recent convert from a Windows Mobile (Palm Treo 700) to a Blackberry (BB Storm).

My views on the Storm.
Great first effort by Blackberry. I love my phone. I know, I know, people complain about it on the daily, but hey, this blog is about my opinion. And my opinion about the phone is a positive one. It's been very good to me.

I enjoy using it on a daily basis. It's reliable and has a good battery life. It has the programs I need to get my work done and some for fun too. I've been playing Air Traffic Control on it very frequently. It's very addictive! Be sure to check it out.

I'm really into cars. I like my sports cars. Of course I would like to buy myself a Aston Martin DBS but come on, unless this Blog suddenly takes off or I win the lottery, I just don't see myself behind the steering wheel of an Aston Martin anytime soon. (Come on guys, help a brotha out!)

Until next time....

An Introduction

This is my blog.

My name is Praneet. Just an everyday guy, with everyday thoughts, wants, need etc.

In this day and age of information, I thought I would let my opinions be known to people too. You know, everyone is entitled to my opinion. (Of course, they don't have to accept it)

I'm going to be an irregular poster, I do have a life outside of computers, but I plan on posting about things that we all think about and discuss in our daily lives but don't always have a "chat partner" to talk to about.

Plus, since i'm currently unemployed, I have a bit of time to "reflect" on my life and get other's insite into general matters of life.

I'm not an english major, so don't expect grammatically perfect posts. Like i said, simple guy with simple needs and simple blog.

So, this was a quick intro. More to come. Keep yourself tuned in :)
